Does the 9cjs allow me to configure my external USB as a boot.

I'm planning on Norton Ghosting to my G: external USB hard drive. Idealy I'd like to be able to boot from it if possible.

Thanks,

Kerry

I just upgraded the Envy to Chaintech's most recent driver, v 3.10b. It installed a VIA vinyl Audio Control Panel in my System Tray and it started working. Now I have the option of either the built-in sound or from the Multimedia Card. I don't yet have 5.1 speakers.

I wrote to Chaintech to tell them that their latest BIOS upgrade (v 7.0 10/18/04) didn't solve my "Any Key" problem and that I'm hoping the new Antec True 480w PS coming tomorrow will do the trick. They said they'd RMA a new MOBO if it doesn't fix the problem.

Thanks,

Kerry

Not sure if this has been posted before .... but Via Arena has an updated sound driver available for the Envy24 onboard sound.

It can be found here:

http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=2

I have been using this driver since its release with no problems. I think Chanitech is just lagging on updating their drivers page.

On another note ... does anyone know what the 7.0 BIOS fixes? What is the "CPU micro-code?" I usually update immediately to the latest BIOS, but my computer has been stable ... and I don't want to update unless it will improve my speed and/or give me better overclocks.

Apologies ... that link I posted does not go all the way to the Envy24 page. You will have to select your operating system and type of drivers.

Re: [quote]thought the Windrivers were all what was needed.[/quote} Don't go on what happened for me. It could have been a quirk that I attributed to v 3.10b.

It reads that it's addresses XP Home and Pro compatibilities, but I didn't notice that it did anything. Background stuff I guess. Using the Alt + F2 AWFlash technique it upgraded flawlessly. I do know that the start of BIOS still reads version 6.0 10/18/04 even though Sandra confirms that I have 7.0 10/18/04.

I'm not certain that the drivers straight from VIA work for us. I tried one one time and it didn't work. My thought is that Chaintech might customize them as it does at least one other driver for use on their boards. Maybe jmke knows something about this. Mine is working fine now, so I'm going with your philosophy, if it ain't broke, opt for stability. Thanks for the link though.

http://www.viaarena.com/downloads/dr...vers_V432b.zip
Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows ME, Windows NT, Windows 98SE, Windows 98, Windows 95

if it ain't broke; don't fix it

would not know if Chaintech uses custom drivers, might need to fire of an email to their support; although they would not be eager to recommend other driver version then their own which they tested in-house.
