Event location is the renowned Know Cube, serving as an ideal location to host an Overclocking event of this size.
This event is invite-only so there is no online qualifier or such preceding the event. The Team themselves can select their own participants; the only requirement is to have activity during the last 6 months at the HWBOT.org website. The 5 German teams comprised of the following participants:
- Team Awardfabrik: Stummerwinter + Angoholic
- Team Freeocen: Moose83 + Sergmann
- Team HardwareLuxx: Dancop + Icke&Er
- Team Hardwarereaktor Reloaded: Bullshooter
- Team PC Games Hardware: Crazzzy85 + True Monkey
Similar to last year VIP Christian Ney and his girlfriend Marine represented Switzerland. Two other VIPs were present during this year’s EOC event: Massman, the ruler of the overclocking scene and Timothée aka Xyala from Overclocking TV. Both were in Europe for the upcoming Gamescom event in Cologne and provided an animated Livestream with live commentary on the ongoing action.
A total of five benchmarks had to be completed all within a specified time frame. Scores had to be first validated by one of the present judges (me and Roman), then straight saved on the team’s dedicated USB stick and finally submitted on the HWBOT website by sir Massman. This was made to avoid holding back scores or known as the infamous sandbagging technique. Secondly the live score board at the HWBOT website allowed the numerous spectators on the live stream to keep in touch what exactly was going on at the EOC 2014.
This year 4 different 2D benchmarks were foreseen, thus no 3D for the 2014 edition. The motherboard and VGA department of Gigabyte are two different worlds. With the latter not sharing the same willingness to diffuse hardware for these events. Nevertheless our contestants could play with some great hardware kindly provided by the sponsors:
- CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K and Core i7-4790K
- Motherboard: Gigabyte Z97X-SOC FORCE LN2
- VGA: Gigabyte HD7790 ( good grief )
- Memory: G.Skill TridentX F3-2933C12D-8GTXDG
- PSU: Seasonic SSX-1200 Platinum
- Monitor, Keyboard and mouse by Gigabyte
Prices were offered by the various sponsors: LN2 boards from Gigabyte, High end Seasonic 1200W Platinum power supplies. Hows about 3000MHz rated dual channel memory from G.Skill ?
