Gigabyte CDRomland OC Workshop

Tradeshow & OC events by leeghoofd @ 2014-04-15

After a first successful outing of the Hardware.Info Pro OC team, it was time to head to a new location. Bundling forces with Gigabyte, Intel and the CDRomLand store the stage was set for another OC workshop. Since the Hardware.Info team is involved in HWBOT's Pro OC Cup some scores had to be improved to remain within the top 10. A tedious task as overclocking with a curious crowd, constantly asking questions, adds up to the challenge. Time to head over to the lovely city of Breda to the CDRomLand shop.

The Results

On Setup 1 Rsnubje managed to improve some of his own personal records; he set a new record for SuperPi 1M at 5 secs 765 with a Core I5-4670K running at 6232MHz. The Crucial Ballistix RAMs to compare with the previous generation where one needed an Intel i7- 3770K  CPU running over 6500 to achieve a similar score.

Also his Aquamark 3 received serious improvement; this time powered by a i7 4770K CPU running under LN2 at 6000MHz. The same Crucial RAMS now with even tighter timings at 9-11-11-21 allowed him to set a 517491 score for the GIGABYTE GTX 780 Windforce edition. A decent score in regards of the used CPU frequency.

Though the more interesting setup of the day was the LN2 cooled AMD 290X setup from Nedernakker; for those that are unaware with black screen benching on AMD cards a brief explanation: subzero benching together with high voltages,  the DVI port looses signal on modern AMD cards, resulting in either a black screen or even a monitor switch off. Usually the rule of thumb is the more voltage you push, the faster it tends to lose signal; only way to verify if the benchmark is still running is either reading via out the voltages or monitoring the cards temperature. First opted workaround was to heat up again the card to regain monitor signal; later that day an easier and faster solution was to utilize two profiles: one for the benchmark itself and one to regain the signal to the monitor. This profile featured lower clocks and voltage 1200MHz and 1.25VGPU.

Baukes new record for Unigene Heaven is set at 5031 points, running 1425MHz on the 290X core (1.52vGPU) and the RAMs at 1750MHz. Two voltage modifications were done on the Gigabyte card: vMEM and an OCP modification (Over Current Protection), a submission which is very welcome in the HWBOT Pro OC Cup for the Hardware.Info Team. With the GPU clocks lowered to 1350MHz he regained the WR in Firestrike and took it over from Wizerty from France; the new WR is set at 13448 points.

His Fire Strike Extreme score at 6983 points is good for 4th global in the AMD Radeon 290X category.
