what cpu did you buy?

what P4 is inside? check the box of the CPU

there are 7 different P4 , not counting the Celeron series:
- Wilmetta S423 , the oldest one (not compatible with your board)
- (A) Northwood S478 400FSB
- (B) Northwood S478 533FSB
- (C) Northwood S478 800FSB
- Northwood S478 800FSB 1Mb cache (EE series)
- (E) Prescott S478 533FSB (lower speed models)
- Prescott S478 800FSB
- Prescott S755 800FSB (not compatible with your board)

if you have an (A) or (B) P4 then "two memory options are 266 and 333" only

I bought a Pentium 4 3.0C GHz 800MHz FSB but when I use SiSandra, CPU & BIOS Info it reads Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz. The C is missing.

I threw out my box, is there another utility that will show what CPU I have?

Thanks,

Kerry

[g]WCPUID[/g] should give you that info also

if you have a Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 4 it's 533FSB
if you have Stepping 9 then it's 800FSB

Update on my system ... I lowered my CPU multiplier to 15 and upped my FSB to 232. It's giving me a CPU reading of around 10,800 in Sisoft Sandra, and 5,600 in memory bandwidth tests. This is a VERY nice board. I tried to lower the CPU multiplier to 14 and up my FSB to 250. My memory (Kingston HyperX DDR466) did not like that after a while ... :-)

Can't change multi with P4.

Sh_t, you have an engineering sample.

Yeah, I can't wait until I finish my watercooling system. Then we'll see what it can do. :-)

With Multiplier at 14X and FSB at 250, I had 6070 in Sandra Memory Bandwidth tests (and 10,900 on CPU math). The effective processor speed was 3.48 gHz. It was nice.

But my memory overheated and I had a lockup complete with screeching sound effects from my speakers (while playing Tribes Vengeance).

Now I am back to 15/233 - still 3.48 gHz, but with 940 FSB instead of 1000. It is much more stable.

Default Shots of my system interior (aka cable snarl)

Just took a shot of my system today to show a friend of mine ... figured I'd post it here too. My cable management skills are not the best. :-)

wcpuid and cpu-z only show my mobile barton as a athlon xp but crystal cpuid shows it's a barton so i guess it will do the same for Intel's...

But even if these progs don't' show you the code or the model there is another easy way: Keep your cpu settings at default and all those progs will show you your fsb and cache size. That's all you need.

I'll use JMke's list:

- (A) Northwood S478 400FSB - ??? l2 cache
- (B) Northwood S478 533FSB - ??? l2 cache
- (C) Northwood S478 800FSB - 512kb l2 cahce
- Northwood S478 800FSB 1Mb cache (EE series) - I'd think you'd know if you had an extreme edition
- (E) Prescott S478 533FSB (lower speed models) - no hyperthreading - 512kb l2 cache
- Prescott S478 800FSB 1mb l2 cache

Your cable skill is the better I've seen; keep up the good work.

From what I've read, you learn everytime you ask; you're humble too - meaning you will success in whatever you do in the future.

Watch out: Jmke may recruit you, he's good in recruiting.
