the Gigabyte Fx 5900xt and MSI FX 5900SP models work 1 of 3, so flash them at your own risk... -> tested. Its the ram's fault -> 2.8ns

Well i've just done me Leadtek A350 Ultra THd Vivo 256mb, and it now reads as a FX5950 Ultra, flashing went smoothly, but i would like to know what other peoples core and memory clock frequency's are with the same card, as mine are now 300/950mhz

0raclé 11th January 2004 11:54

Gopher04 i have the same card as you and i flashed my card and updated the BIOS. What BIOS version number are you reading under the geforce 5950 tab under display properties?

4.35.20.32? If its different to this what files did you use when flashing/updating the BIOS?

Any help appreciated.

theskillster 11th January 2004 11:58

OK I HAVE SUCCESS
I got abit siluro 5900fx 128mg
used the earlier version of nvflash (v4.41 thanks to that earlier post whoever it was)
screen shot is here http://www.skillster.co.uk/5950.JPG
NVFLASH 4.41+THE BIOS I HAD AND THE BIOS I USED
http://www.skillster.co.uk/5950flash.rar
GOOD LUCK
and remember to keep a backup

Gopher04 11th January 2004 11:59

Hi 0raclé, bios no. is 4.35.20.32.00 this is under the adapter tab in display properties..what are your clock frequencies now?

0raclé 11th January 2004 12:12

The default clock settings are now 475Mhz & 950Mhz under 3D performance. Standard 2D performance defaults: 300Mhz & 950Mhz.

Why i asked about what BIOS version you have is cos i don't think its worked properly. The BIOS version should be 4.35.30.32
for the A380 BIOS the file we downloaded and re-named. Heres the Link:

http://www.leadtek.com.tw/support/do...?pronameid=329

Once i got my PC to think it had a A380 Ultra i tryed to update it with that BIOS file but it doesn't work.

karsten 11th January 2004 12:14

hej revo2001

You need to use wfflash instead of nvflash. i got the same problems as you when i used nvflash. You don't have to use the X-editor when you flash with wfflash.

Kindly Karsten-DK

but i've got it now : http://users.pandora.be/ringworld/FILES/8946v100.rar
it won't stay there for ever so enjoy. (flash tool included)

thamderbird 11th January 2004 16:04

I also have problems with tv-out functionality. have tried with two different gainward bios, and the leadtek one(although that one rendered the card useless in win - blank screen)
also the only bios that doesn't have the card running 4x agp is the original....that does run 8x agp - could be a driver issue of course but cant get that working.

I have the gainward 5900xt which before landed at 466/880 max, that after the bios is updated can run at least 475/930 so I would like very much to get it working - Any thoughts anyone?
thank you in advance. (Also I would like to thank the people who have already posted links to the download sites)

For those having trouble with the board ID, the latest version of nvflash (4.46) does not seem to have an override flag. Look for 4.42, which has an override flag for board ID (-2) or look for 4.41 which does not seem to check for it at all. 4.46 removed the board ID override and changed the flags for the other ID overrides from -u & -p to -2 & -1

This hasn't helped me, however.

I tried wfflash first. I used 'wfflash nm a380u.rom' (and later 5950e400.rom). It tries to save the old BIOS to saveold.rom (I'd already done that, though), then it does some kind of verification that always fails with "Verifying error address 0002,data 7c'. It asks if I want to try again, but nothing makes it go through.

nvflash seems to get further, but the end result is still failure. It gives me the warnings about mismatched IDs, then says that it's erasing the EEPROM, then says that it's writing the new BIOS file...then it dies with 'Mismatch in 256 byte page-write programming'. Oddly, the old BIOS is still intact on the card after this. I have been able to successfully write a copy of the existing BIOS back to the card with nvflash, but I cannot do it with wfflash (I get an error similar to the one above).

This is with both 4.42 and 4.41 -- if anyone had success, what version of nvflash was used?

I have the same exact problem.. I'm wondering if XFX locked the bios. Could be possible.. Maybe we should try erasing it first?

i have the asylum fx5900 i have dled the nvflash446 is this the right bios?
does it work for my card?
and what is the right file please someone answer me
i have cal m counterstrike match on tues,, :)

revo2001 11th January 2004 16:45

HAHAH?~!?!

Okay... IMPORTANT!!!

For all you people having problems flashing your BIOS.. Getting the BOARD ID Problem? Get NVFlash v4.41 from nvplanet.com.

Boot up using your start up disk, then type "nvflash -r" ... it seems like some of the nice manufacturers out there write protected the ROM images on the cards..

After that follow the original process (nvflash -p -u image.rom) and all shall be good..

This works on XFX!!!

Apocalipsis 11th January 2004 17:29

Here MSI FX5900NU-VTD128 succesfully flashed with bios from MSI 5950Ultra-VTD256 (BIOS version 4.35.20.32.16).

Thx Oberon-Sedai for the link.

Regards.

revo2001 11th January 2004 20:29

Arighty.. Well the XFX no longer works correctly with a 5950 Bios.. Pretty much what happens is the bios loads correctly but when windows goes to load it, supposely there aren't enough resources to load it correctly so the display gets stuck at 640x480 at 8 bit colors, ack..

I think im just gonna load up a 5900 ultra bios just to make sure my card boots up at higher speeds all the time

xan3x 11th January 2004 20:55

revo so i am dead in the water with the nvfalsh446,
i boote up to it and i was able to make the back up of my bios.
but i do not know the name of the file name to flash to it i do not see it on the flopy.
or am i just better off trying the 5900u, and where do i get the 5900u flash

darklord 11th January 2004 20:57

got succes with my asus fx5900 its now a fx5900 ultra..with the gainward bios in it ..you need to get hold of the latest nvflash 4.41 otherwise its doesnt work..
its doesnt seems to make a big difference during gameplay it stil feels the same..but i love the name change :)

nice one guys (10 pionts ;)..)

revo2001 11th January 2004 21:09

just make sure you copied the gainward or leadtek ROM to the floppy also.. I also renamed those files to something more simplistic to make it easier to know which one is which.. even going as far as renaming the gainward 5950 bios to "gainward.rom" is okay! .. Just dont make the name longer then 8 characters.

revo2001 11th January 2004 21:20

For the XFX users..

Here's the process.. Get the NVFlash v4.41 from NVPlanet. (http://www.nvplanet.com/modules.php?...p=getit&lid=81)

Copy the NVFlash.exe file to a start up floppy.

Download the Gainward bios. (http://www.3dchips.co.kr/main/downlo...pds_bios&no=55 .. Page only works in Internet Explorer)

Rename the ROM image in the zip file to gainward.rom

Copy to Floppy

Boot your computer up using the floppy.

type in: NVFlash -r

This should take away the write protection on the video card. (You possibly might want to restart, I don't think I did, but if the below steps do not work, restart and try them again)

Now type in NVFlash -p -u gainward.rom

Make sure when it asks you to type in "YES" to type it in capital letters!

That should do the trick..

Unfortunately for myself I have noticed that I can get the rom flashed correctly but I am getting issues with Windows not having enough resources to run the card as a 5950. If anybody could help me out with this problem it would be greatly appreciated.

xan3x 11th January 2004 21:26

will i have that problem i have a gig mem ddr

i can not get the gainward file even with ie

revo2001 11th January 2004 22:02

Xan3x, look at the original thread of this topic, it gives links to a few BIOS roms..

Lysnyt, There's a lot of people having that problem and there's no resolution as of yet. Check Futuremark's forums for a more indepth discussion. There's a guy looking to fix it by editing the bios images.
