erm. I think you've done it right :)

0raclé 10th January 2004 17:37

Hmmm ok,

So basically i've just made my PC think its got something else. I see nothing special apart from that. No performance increase or anything. Think i'll try it to make it think its a Leadtek A380 Ultra as that might have more of an effect. :(

MAXIMUS 10th January 2004 18:10

Hello guys, my first post here, to the point;
I have a abit siluro FX5900 with the big exhaust thing.
Im using a boot disc and all correctly with nvflash (latest one)
im using that coole100.rom zip that was linked in an earlier post above somewhere.
Im using command :
nvflash -5 -6 -f coole100.rom
after backing up my original bios of course.
it keeps giving me first 3 warnings, my device id is different, so is my vendor id (ok i know this), then it says my board id is different, and stops there with the error that my board id is different.
Any help or suggestions, Id like to try doing this flash trick, never tried something this brave before :)

I get the same errors on my XFX 5900. Tried BIOS editing to get the first 2 to work okay, but the board ID isnt easily changed so now I am stuck. Sucks!

This will not work for me.

It loads nvflash from the floppy, then just displays the readme file. :(

Any idea what could be wrong?

Does anyone know how to EDIT the BOARD ID in the BIOS files?

dapez 10th January 2004 18:39

works on 5700 Ultra ?

Does it works one 5700 Ultra based cards, wich are NV35 based, like 5900 ones ???

Naryan[UK] 10th January 2004 18:48

After doing some serious testing with the flash upgrade.
I have noticed that my idle temps are now 4'c to 5'c cooler than normal (about 37'c-38'c, compared to the 42'c I used to get).
And when stressed the temp is a good 9'c lower than before.

That's stressed running 3dmark '03 on a constant loop for a good 8 hours.
Oh and I do get a higher score since the bios update :)

Lysnyt 10th January 2004 19:01

Hello,

Please does it work with Asus 9950 ?? (..its FX5900) Pleaaase send me anybody info please please pleaaase (lysnyt@vnet.sk)

4-n-zics 10th January 2004 20:16

does any one know if this works with or has tried it on a BFG Asylum GFX 5900nU?

Brendon 10th January 2004 20:55

Anyone know which BIOS has the latest version number? There's a couple you can use, but I'd like to put the latest available on my PNY 5900NU... I'm hoping to fix the "scrolling buzz" problem.

Anyone able to remedy that problem yet?

Peace 10th January 2004 21:09

Lysnyt: I have asus 9950 too! And it works with the gainward 5950 bios!

Here is the link for the bios rom:

Intronic 10th January 2004 21:26

Anyone has a good bios for the Club3D FX 5900XT? If it works on a Leadtek 5900LX (2.8ns mem), it should work on a XT too. ;p

Naryan[UK] 11th January 2004 00:07

I changed mine back to a 5900, as I discovered that my TV out and video in had stopped working :(

Yes! this is important. This is the biggest problem people(including myself) are having in getting this thing to work. Does anybody with some decent BIOS skills know how to get this puppy fixed?

WeldZilla 11th January 2004 00:37

Do not see the value in this?

I guess if your card could not run stable before at 450gpu 0r 475gpu it would be worth it. How about seeing some aquamark scores or 3Dmark03 build 340 scores that shows a difference. I run an e_VGA 5900fx non-ultra @ 495gpu and 995 mem.that is my everyday stable clock. I benched Aquamark at 502gpu and 1002 mem. A real 5950 ultra will run 550 gpu and 1050 as an everyday clock, and is stable too. So I really do not see much benifit in this other than for some reason it helped you to run cooler. My card runs at 39C and never goes higher than 57C.

http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=1705599
I would like to see some before and after scores if any of you have them. Thsnks

Lysnyt 11th January 2004 00:47

hmm
people had any idea what is with the tv-out ? isnt workinq now..i have Asus9950 and flash to gainward 5950 and now the tv-out cannot be activated.. any idea why?

revo2001 11th January 2004 00:51

heh. read this forum and the others that have sprouted up and the many answers to the 'i dont see how this is a benfit unless it does.. <insert here>' remarks.

It increases the voltages to the vcore and the memory so it does benefit the user in that it allows a higher overclock.

Read the forums before you respond!!!

WeldZilla 11th January 2004 01:05

How would it increase voltage? the 5900fx and the 5950 ultra both have a default voltage of 1.5 volts , if this is such a great thing I would like to see some scores posted and higher overlocks than my stock card posted ,but, I don't see any ,All I am seeing is a bunch of useless talk !!!!! show me the numbers!!

WeldZilla 11th January 2004 01:21

Hey 4-n-zics I see on your 3Dmark03 score you have overclocked your 2D engine on your card. Leave it at 300 and overclock your 3D engine only. It will yield better overall results. I use Rivatuner and coolbits both to OC my card, rivatuner will let you OC farther.then go up your card properties with Coolbits and when you get to the clock frequency just click "OK". Puts Rivatuner and colbits in sync. Experiment with it. But leave the 2D clock at 300!!

jmke 11th January 2004 01:23

read the futuremark disc. thread, you'll see aquamark & 3dmark benches to prove higher overclock.

revo2001 11th January 2004 01:24

Weld, I've seen numerous posts of people having cooler cards and the GPU running up to 55mhz higher then their 5900 bios gave them.

WeldZilla 11th January 2004 01:52

cool, thanks I'll take a look

f00ge 11th January 2004 01:53

Right, has anyone actually done this sccuessfully with a Gainward card?

I've tried every ROM and every NVflash version I could find.
None of them will flash my card.
Either I get the readme file displayed, or I get a Board ID mismatch (that's when using aflash -5 -6 filename)

Whatr version nvflash dod you use?
What exactly was the command line?

Thanks,

darklord 11th January 2004 02:09

does this bios flash works with an asus v9950 ?

just want to know :P

hajj_3 11th January 2004 03:02

I have an ABIT SILURO 5900 FX 128mb, i really wanna flash mine, which of the 2 bios's did you other memebers use for this that didnt work?

"try this
nvflash -5 -6 <FILENAME>
should work, the intructions givin on the main page are for an older version me thinks"

i so wanna flash mine, im getting just 13000 in 3d mark 01 with a barton 2800+ 512mb ddr 400, sata hdd.

please e-mail me if you manage to flash your abit cards - hajj_3@hotmail.com

i would be very grateful !

hajj_3 11th January 2004 03:06

also how do i find out the temp of my graphics card and ram, is there a program like sandra soft 2004 pro or does it say in bios or something ?

any help would be much appreciated!

emzinex 11th January 2004 03:13

[

any good bios editors out there? =D [/b][/quote]

For Gainward owners: use wfflash. May work with other cards as well.
example: wfflash nm 5950e300.rom

Had same prob w/gainward bios and winfast till i used wfflash not nvflash. (left out in article's directions i think)

1600 golden sample now a 1800u. Temps are 10c lower to w/
5950e300.rom.
Don't know if that's improvement w/ 5950 updated software or what. Haven't tried vivo though.

that is my 3D core overclock... at least I am under the impression that it is.. I am using Coolbits to OC my VC... I have the 3D pulldown set to 3D Performance and OCing.. if I set it back to 2D Performance the core speed resets back to 300..

First impression for me was when i used some tweaking programs for checking the hardware spec's of the FX-card used in DX9.0b +; ooooh they made a fault inside those programs, it must be an NV38.
But now when i read this nice tweaking about the FX5900 cards, i discovered that this is been a marketing trick to earn lots of money with out selling a real NV38 chipset, real unbelieveble, like a worst nightmare.....

So where is the real NV38 chipset??? otherwise if it wouldn't be there, i want my MONEY BACK !!!

WeldZilla 11th January 2004 07:43

Well I just checked the 3Dmark03 orb I am still number 21 in the world. that is all processors and all speeds using a 5900fx. If you have a card with anything less than 2.2 ns ram you are never going to achieve what you are hoping for. I am still using the 845 chipset as soon as I get my canterwood built I will climb into the top 10, hope to see some of you there but,I have my doubts.

hardandgame 11th January 2004 08:28

I'm using an XFX FX5900 256MB, and I can't make either nvflash or wfflash work.

For those having trouble with the board ID, the latest version of nvflash (4.46) does not seem to have an override flag. Look for 4.42, which has an override flag for board ID (-2) or look for 4.41 which does not seem to check for it at all. 4.46 removed the board ID override and changed the flags for the other ID overrides from -u & -p to -2 & -1

This hasn't helped me, however.

I tried wfflash first. I used 'wfflash nm a380u.rom' (and later 5950e400.rom). It tries to save the old BIOS to saveold.rom (I'd already done that, though), then it does some kind of verification that always fails with "Verifying error address 0002,data 7c'. It asks if I want to try again, but nothing makes it go through.

nvflash seems to get further, but the end result is still failure. It gives me the warnings about mismatched IDs, then says that it's erasing the EEPROM, then says that it's writing the new BIOS file...then it dies with 'Mismatch in 256 byte page-write programming'. Oddly, the old BIOS is still intact on the card after this. I have been able to successfully write a copy of the existing BIOS back to the card with nvflash, but I cannot do it with wfflash (I get an error similar to the one above).

This is with both 4.42 and 4.41 -- if anyone had success, what version of nvflash was used?
