Got a Leadtek FX5900xt now, i can overclock to the fx5950u speeds without problem but when i flash i get this ****ed up windowsscreen.
So my card isnt flashable? or maby with better cooling?
I tried the flash with stock cooling so without memsinks.

I have a 5900 Ultra and i want to put it at a 5950 Ultra... Do you have a link for the Bios i would use. Or is this even possible b/c i read earlier that you had to have a Non-ultra 5900? So i wasn't completly sure

Thanks for taking ur time to read this.

When you have an 5900u you have better ram (than the xt) on your bord, so i guess you have a good chanse that it works.

WOW! This thread is a real gold mine! Thank you to all who have so richly contributed.

I'm new here and came accross this place only a few hours ago, looking for info and feebacks on 5900 Ultras.

I will be upgrading my Ti-4600 to an nBOX MSI 5900U 256MB in a few days and after looking around, I'm seriously thinking about flashing the card to a 5950U. What can I say except: DOOM3!!!

If I oc my 5900 to 5950 speeds and its stable, would there be any other reasons to flash the card?

For those of you who flashed MSI cards, which BiOS did you use?

Has anyone found a VIVO fix after flashing their cards?

Because when you just overclock the card, you'll need to re-apply (or let a program re-apply) your overclock everytime you reboot. If you flash the card, the settings are locked inside the bios of the graphic's card, so you don't need to redo all those things again. A flash overclock is also known to give a slightly better overclock, probably because windows isn't interupting the card's work by changing the fequencies.

wrong answer buddy.

flashing will increase voltage to the core and change memory timings, allowing you to reach even higher overclocks.

:*

you'll have to find the correct flashrom though

Twin_Snakes 13th August 2004 16:54

Ok, thanks!

I'm reading through some more of the posts and noticed the mods were done with motsly 5900 non-ultra cards.

But theoretically, a 5900 ultra 256MB can be flashed into a 5950 ultra 256MB, right? Sorry for the uncertainty.

Also, I just downloaded two MSI bios from mvktech.net and was wandering what was the difference beetween them. Has anyone here flashed their MSI cards with MSI bioses with success?

About the VIVO, I found this late last night: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread....0&pagenumber=1

I don't know if it will work, my card will be here Monday so I'll try then.

**EDIT: I just the post right above my prevous one that answered my question about flashing 5900u into 5950u. :super:

I got my 5900 Ultra now. I know it is recommanded to overclock it to 5950 speeds to make sure it can handle the flash.

But which program do I need to overclock and see my vga temps?

jmke 18th August 2004 09:40

Powerstrip to overclock
the temps can be seen in the video card's advanced properties.

Riva Tuner allows you to overclock & check temps at the same time ->

Gainward FX 5900 (non ultra) Model Ultra/1200 Golden Sample

Greetings:

I own a Gainward FX Powerpack FX 5900: Model=Ultra/1200 Golden Sample 128 MB (With ViVo)

I was able to flash my Video card with the 5950E400.ROM, 5950E300.ROM, and some gainward bioses from mvktech.com (thsi was some time ago) link looks dead now

http://www.mvktech.net/download.php?list.36

The card gets flashed correctly to FX5950 Ultra and it works great on WinXp, but my TV-out just doesn't work. I tried a procedure i saw in :http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread....threadid=77573 but it doesn't work also.

I was wondering if anybody with my exact video card got the FX 5950 bios upgrade to work for them keeping the Tv-out and ViVo working. I'd apreciatte if you could tell me what you did to get it working or send me the bios via email: atinoco@puntoweb.com

My video card is: Gainward FX Powerpack: FX 5900 Model=Ultra/1200 Golden Sample 128 MB (With ViVo)
Semi-Finish Product NO=G932000IP0J0 (it's on a sticker on the card)

here's a couple of links to the card's full reviews with pictures:

the site is still live (mvktech) but link has changed http://www.mvktech.net/index.php?opt...r&filecatid=89

flashing your board will disable TV-Out 99% of the time :(

atinoco 2nd December 2004 15:25

I saw that, but there are no gainward FX 5900U Bioses there now.

I spent lots of time trying this about 4 months ago, was wondering if someone with the same video card i have got it to work correctly.

Hopefully someone did. TV out its vital to me.

ok guys lets go to the finaly

i have one Gainward FX 5900xt golden sample 1100xt.

I search in this topic and i didnt find out one person thats have the same vga that me, that it worked.

I want to know if its possible to do the biosmod 5950u with my vga. i tryed to put 475-950 and i got bugs.

on this biosmod, the latency of memory is relaxed?

and i dont get the 5950e400.rom, the link is broken

Please i want the asnwers.

Thank you very much :ws:

ssl6 7th December 2004 04:18

as far as i know, the flash will not work on any 5900xt because they use slower memory on the xt and it cant handle the extra speed.....maybe with a volt mod it could work, but thats a longshot i think

Sidney 7th December 2004 04:59

As I understand it; the BIOS Mod is to "fool" the low throttle down setpoint temp. If you card is capable it will overclock nicely. But, you cannot expect your Honda Civics to outrun a Corvette;)

I have to send my Gainward 5900 Ultra 256 back to be replaced with a new one...

Mine is hacked to a 5950... I cant find the original bios anywhere. Do any of you have it saved or know where I can get it? I dont need the hacked bios as I can just pull that off my card I have now before I send it in.

Thanks! :ws:

jmke 25th March 2005 23:49

www.mvktech.net :)

Alives 25th March 2005 23:55

thanks a ton!! all thats listed though is the 5900 ultra 128... you think that would work ok or should i try a different brand?

Geo_ 15th April 2005 15:46

Ok... I have a problem, when i type the command "wfflash nm a380u.rom" everything start all right, but then it stops and this apears "Verefeing error adress 0002. data 7e" and the only thing i can do is to restart the system and when I get in to windows, everything is normal, like it was before the flash... Help!:(
