This is the first of a multi-part series aimed at answering those questions, and providing a closer look at these new technologies. Today I will be focusing on new memory technologies: dual-channel, and DDR2.

These past eighteen months have been quite exciting: they have seen the coming of the first 64-bit desktop chips, the first desktop alternatives to PCI, AGP and IDE, the introduction of DDR2 memory, and the universal adoption of dual-channel by the mainstream desktop market. But what do these terms really mean, and more importantly, what implications do they have in the real world?
