Default First RISC-V laptop arrives

It will probably get better

The world’s first RISC-V laptop has just hit the shelves to a collective yawn from reviewers.

The ROMA development platform boasts the forthcoming quad-core RISC-V processor for “the fastest, seamless RISC-V software development experience” although since it is the first such titles are fairly silly. It would also be the slowest and most expensive RISC-V experience but that is the disadvantage of being the first off the blocks.

According to the press release the quad-core RISC-V CPU features a security enclave processor, up to 16GB of LPDDR4/LPDDR4X RAM, 256GB of internal storage, and support for most Linux variant operating systems. It provides a Web3-friendly platform with NFT creation and publication as well as an integrated MetaMask-style wallet.

Founder and CEO of Xcalibyte and DeepComputing Yuning Liang said that with its PoS, NFT, and MetaMask-style wallet, ROMA was born for the Metaverse.

“This is the laptop of the future. We will spare no effort to provide the best RISC-V native development experience for developers,” he said.

Quantities are said to be limited for this ROMA laptop, which likely will put a pricing premium on it. There are no signs what the price will be, or if you will be able to run Crystalis or any other insect on it.
