| ok all the benches are here... prescott is not an improvement, it simply is the same as northwood performancewise, sometimes faster, sometimes slower, and it goes to 70°C easily under full load and overclocked (a little bit) it could however be that by the time we see socket 775 they have a new revision with the power to overclock however, we need to see how well those cpu's will overclock on air/water...they seem not to be bothered by those high temps to be stable... one thing however, almost all reviews I read (this morning between 6 and 7 am ) are done outside cases... can you imagine the temps we'll see when normal people put these in their nonventilated cases? you can easily add 15° to those temps...

| I just hope the Prescott dosen't succeed cuz i'm sick of all those TV adverts with the "duh did duh duh" themetune. About time people realized most of the time the Intel PC's they buy are rip offs compared to AMD equivalent. Can't wait for AMD to bring down there killer checkmate move to kill Intel. lol like thats ever going to happen. |

| well... if socket 939 and fx53 speedbump is here... no p4 3.6 EE will come close, and certainly no prescott 3.6 amd has a killer move now... if they use it you haev to know one think though... if amd has lots and lots of performance over intel, their top-end cpu's will be very very expensive...

| I think as long as there nearly top range (example there Barton 2500+) remains affordable to 90% of people AMD will keep on doing better. When 'Joe public' realises the MHz thing is fairly pointless (if that day ever comes) then more people will go with AMD. Until then most people will continue polishing there little shiney Intel case badge. The whole thing makes you think what else are you being ripped of over in life. Almost makes you want to burn down a McDonalds or go on an Anti-War march. lol |

| "So, if there are two points to note in this weeks price guide, we already explained one; Prescott on Socket 478 is pointless. Even the overclocking aspects of the processor aren't going to be worth it for now. Socket 775 is not too far away, and when the new interface begins to show up, we would not be surprised if Prescott packs more of a punch (and maybe even a little less heat dissipation). The second major point we wanted to bring up is that it looks like Prescott shipments are slightly lower than expected, and even delayed a few weeks. Nearly all the vendors don't expect to see initial Prescott shipments until the 15th, and mass quantities until the 1st of March. The 3.4GHz P4EE won't show up in initial quantities until March 1st, and 3.4GHz Prescott doesn't look like it will even show up in the next 60 days. However, various fanboys need not interpret this as "Intel is dying." by anandtech no prescott 3.4 until end march...and lowmhz prescotts slower than current northies. that means : socket 775 and 939 will decide our next buys

| http://www.azzo.com/af4/list.asp?CtgID=130 weird thing... prescott priced the same at 2.8 as 2.4c... (I know it's oem versus retail but nevertheless, it's weird...)
