Default intel price cuts having weird effect...

as intel is cutting prices to the launch products, the debuting prescott 3.4 ghz will be at 417 dollar, that's 340 euro's or sth, however that is for 1000 units.
this means we have an intel top of the line (3.2EE not counting coz that one isn't even supposed to be sold frequently) and the athy 3400+, its competitor about the same price...

that means both top model cpus are sold at under 500 euros...
I've never seen such a situation before, that's within everyone's reach...

a 3.2 won't even cost 300 euro anymore...and my trusted 3.0 will be a budget cpu at under 200 euros coming next week

and 15% slower then an equal speed northwood (ok that might be over the top, but it's slower)

incorrect my friend
the prescott seems to be at least as fast as the NW on a prescott-enabled motherboard.

if its slower then its only by a couple of %, nowhere near 15

yes, prescott benches are still unofficial, like FUGGER said on Xtremesystems: most motherboards now not really support the Prescott. They don't seem to cope with the 1M of L1cache. He says that's what holding back the Prescott benches...

I got my info from people that actually tested prescot.
With it's longer pipeline it can reach higher speeds without burning up, but it ends up being slower at the same speeds (cfr athlon XP <=> P4)
