From what I've read on the fora, that's again a problem of earlier (C0) memory controllers on the A64's...

i've been doing some more testing,
if i put the stick in bank2, windows crashes after 15-30 minutes.
bank 1 however is prime-stable.
can this still be a picky mem-controller?

well if it is, it would seem that it's more then just a picky memcontroller...

perhaps mail the motherboard manufacturer support about this? Wether you're wrong or right, they should be able to sort that out for you... I think...

Good news, I received the broken cpu today and was able to get it running. :)

I didn't manage to fix the broken pin on the processor itself, but it with some minor modifications to my motherboard, it works anyway.

I've cut a small piece of a fine iron needle, about as long as the other pins on an A64, and jammed it into the hole in the s754 socket where the missing socket pin would be. After putting some silver paint on the end of the broken needle, it conducts like a charm. Sorry for the lack of picks, my digicam battery went dead shortly after talking the first few pictures. : /

It's running prime stable at default speeds, i think it will be ok as long as I keep the processor in this motherboard. :super:

Inserting a pin to the socket replicating the broken pin on the CPU is the way to go.:)

nice resurrection action, hope you can remove the pin afterwards though, otherwise you're stuck with that CPU ;)

I think it's pretty much jammed in the socket. I don't really care though, if I'd upgrade i'd be a s939 with PCI-X anyway.

how does that A64 3200+ overclock? How much did you pay for it? (if you are allowed to say;))
