Turn Up the Volume with the Logitech MediaPlay Cordless Mouse
FREMONT, Calif. - Sept. 20, 2004 - Logitech (SWX:LOGN) (NASDAQ:LOGI), the world´s leading manufacturer of computer mice, today introduced the Logitech® MediaPlayTM Cordless Mouse. A trailblazing product designed for a growing number of people listening to music and watching videos on their PCs, the Logitech MediaPlay Cordless Mouse serves both as a full-featured cordless computer mouse and as a remote control that can play digital media on a PC. With an extended wireless range of more than 10 feet and a sporty new design, this is the ultimate mouse for the way people use their PCs today - for work and play.
In a recent Parks Associates study of 4,000 Internet users in the U.S., 56 percent of respondents listen to Internet radio on their PCs and 56 percent download music files.
"The MediaPlay Cordless Mouse, an industry first, gives people the freedom to enjoy and control their media without ever lifting their hand from this mouse," said Ashish Arora, Logitech director of product marketing, Retail Pointing Devices. "This is the age of digital media, when most of us are using our PCs not only for work but also to listen to music, view digital photos or watch videos. With the Logitech MediaPlay Cordless Mouse, people can now enjoy and control their media experience while they are working on the PC and listening to music in the background or sitting back in their chair relaxing. As a mouse, it´s extremely comfortable, performs exceptionally well and includes the advanced navigation features that are hallmark traits of a Logitech mouse."
The Logitech MediaPlay Cordless Mouse is a breakthrough in both function and form. Its industrial design allows it to be held comfortably as a computer mouse - with a hand over the top - or as a remote - in the palm of the hand. When used as a remote, the scroll wheel serves as the center for navigation, allowing use of the thumb for scrolling through menus and directories of music, videos and pictures.
The unique design includes 10 integrated, backlit media buttons - including Play, Pause, Forward, Back and Volume - enabling easy access and intuitive control of popular media players such as Musicmatch, Windows® Media Player, RealPlayer®, and others. The backlit media buttons illuminate when pressed, making them easy to see in most lighting conditions, while adding to the sporty, youthful feel of the design. A soft rubber ridge around the mouse, a contoured base, and a subtle hourglass shape make the Logitech MediaPlay Cordless Mouse extra comfortable. It will be offered in two different lively color combinations: silver, black and cool blue, or vibrant red and glossy black.
The Logitech MediaPlay Cordless Mouse also features a conveniently located Media button that launches Logitech® MediaLifeTM software - a powerful, full-screen interface that brings together all of the music, pictures and video on the PC. Logitech MediaLife also provides direct access and control of the popular Musicmatch Internet radio service. The Media button, located just beneath the scroll wheel, can be set up to launch any other media player applications.
The Logitech MediaPlay Cordless Mouse comes with a loaded feature set that includes Logitech´s universal forward and back thumb controls for application-specific page navigation, powerful Tilt Wheel Plus Zoom scrolling, six-month battery life, enhanced optical technology and Fast RFTM wireless technology. The Tilt Wheel Plus Zoom scroll wheel allows easy and accurate scrolling in three dimensions - up-and-down, in-and-out and side-to-side - for maximum control when listening to music or viewing digital photos, as well as when working in Windows® and Microsoft® Office® applications. The Logitech MediaPlay Cordless Mouse uses optical technology based on invisible light - saving on power and eliminating distraction when the mouse is used as a remote. It also includes an on-off switch to further extend battery life.
The Logitech MediaPlay Cordless Mouse ships with an innovative Mini-Receiver - the answer to yesterday´s bulky receivers with their trailing cords. Approximately the size of a car key, the advanced Mini-Receiver plugs into a USB port and the mouse works instantly. There is no connection process because the receiver is paired with its companion mouse at the factory. The Mini-Receiver reduces clutter and works well with both desktops and notebooks.
Pricing and Availability
The Logitech MediaPlay Cordless Mouse is now available in the U.S. on select retail shelves and at www.logitech.com for a suggested retail price of $49.95. It will be available in Europe later this month.
For a limited time in the U.S., those who purchase the Logitech MediaPlay Cordless Mouse will be offered 10 free music downloads from Musicmatch. With more than 60 million registered users, Musicmatch is a leader in providing personalized products and services for finding and listening to the music that best matches individual tastes.
