Default Self-encrypting Toshiba hard drives can erase themselves

Hard drives with on-the-fly encryption have been available for quite some time now. Even SSDs are getting in on the action; SandForce's SF-1000-series flash controller encrypts drive contents by default. Toshiba has now added a new twist to the concept by allowing self-encrypting drives effectively to erase themselves under certain circumstances

Default

useless for larger companies without a company wide backup plan in place to recover data.
protecting data is one thing, allowing tech. staff to easily recover data in case needed is another thing.

creating a truecrypt volume is a matter of minutes; recovering data from it because the user forget his/her password is ... well... a lost cause.
