Right now texturing performance still means something, and we are glad to see these improvements in the GTX 200 series. It surely seems to be paying off. Notice that in every game we were able to have 16X AF enabled, we found literally very little performance drop enabling 16X AF in every game. This is a quality option you can simply leave on and enjoy clear textures.
I think we can get 8800 GTX performance at 2xAA/16xAF now with the GTX 280; after almost 2 years, is it a worthy upgrade?

To me it is, still using 8800GTX because of lack of progress. Will seriously consider the new cards from nV or ATi when they can be compared later this month.

indeed waiting is the smartest action, $399 and $650 is hardly competitive compared to $399 9800GX which runs on par with GTX280 in most games

Anandtech included 8800 GT in SLI in their benchmarks, a €300 solution that performs on par with the GTX 280 overall. The 8800 GT SLI outperforms the 260 with a nice margin and is cheaper. Only if NVIDIA keeps the price at $650 = €420 it stands a chance. If they introduce it here in .EU at €650... good luck.
