Default Nehalem Motherboards Pictured at Computex

Here, you'll notice many mobos with 12 or even 18 DIMM slots. Odd number? No, it is simply two CPUs times three channels times three DIMMs per channel. In that config, though, you're reduced to DDR3-1333 speed - which should still be more than enough for a six-channel server memory setup.

Overall, the boards seem production ready, the PC and dual-socket " Skulltra il 2" follow ups will support XMP enthusiast memory timings as well, and the new heat sinks and cooling systems for the biggie LGA1366 sockets are right there too.

The vibe I'm getting from Computex reports is that Nehalem will be coming sooner rather than later or have I just got a dose of wishful thinking

I know but they've been talking 'mainstream' release mid-2009 but reports point to it being a lot sooner.

Exactly what reports? Mainstream launch should be January or later, Bloomfield should be this Q4.

Sorry, I should have been clearer. It's the impression I'm getting from the various Computex articles I'm seeing despite non-Computex articles stating dates for the mainstream launch have slipped.
It's only that - nothing set in stone.

Ah, sorry I misread then.

Would wish the sooner the better... Makes no sense to launch a new P45, G45, G43 chipsets right before a new CPU launch that can't use them though. I'm betting sometime September/October for the enthusiast Nehalem parts... Maybe even August, that was when Conroe launched in 2006 and parts were on shelves.
