Intel E2140 Pentium Dual Core:Although the ASRock 1333-DVI is capable of meeting Intel’s latest 1333FSB processors at the expense of running PCIe bus to 115 Mhz, we choose the Intel E2140 for this test because it is the lowest priced Dual Core from Intel. Intel does not call it Core 2 Duo because it has only half the cache (2x512) of the low end C2D, instead the name
Intel Pentium lives on.
This
cheap CPU from Geeks Computer Parts priced at $76 should be able to keep up. Hopefully, the board could bring the speed higher. With an 8 multiplier x 200 FSB or 800MHz bus speed (1.6 Ghz), at 333 FSB (4x333) or 1333MHz bus speed it will make it close to 2.66 Ghz. At least, this is the plan.
The max fan rotation is about 2,000 rpm making this a very quiet fan. This is all aluminum heatsink; the low thermal characteristic of this CPU prompted Intel to do away with the copper core.
The e2140 is the lowest price Intel C2D or if you want to call it Pentium dual core using C2D platform processor. The price may even go lower in the next few weeks.
I have no question that this E2140 will hit 400FSB or 3.2Ghz. 355 is the max as PCIe bus speed is now at 122, vcore fefault. At 123, the SATA HDD is lost.
