Cases & PSU/Power Supplies by SidneyWong @ 2006-03-31

HEC/Compucase is a major OEM power supply and case manufacturer. Its business partners include Toshiba, Hitachi, LG Electronics and some of the well known brands in the PC enthusiasts market. In my last business trip to Southern China, HEC sent me an invitation to tour their plant located in Shenzhen, China.

The 36 dBA reading was captured when the door of the sound chamber was slightly open. It read ~30 dBA when the door was closed; telling me the claims from some folks that they have 25 dBA sound level in an ordinary suburban house is highly questionable.

After burn in room, I asked Frank what the procedure was when a unit is below specs in voltage since HEC does not provide trim pots for safety reason. His reply on low end voltage reading, trimming off some resisters would do the job. This I found hard to believe for two reasons 1) the trimming/cutting part and 2) the rework labor. I gather I have to do more asking at this time. But, before I do more asking I like to show you a few more photos on the in-house transformer and choke lines.

Getting back to the previous question for Frank, he did reply that the trimming off some resisters is done at pre-functional test station hence the labor cost is minimal; the unit will then be recycled to the testing loop.

While some of you are looking else where, I am focusing on how clean the floor is at all times. A clean production floor tells me a lot more; a well run factory. Job well done, Frank.
