HEC Power Supply - An inside look of a PSU manufacturer

HEC/Compucase is a major OEM power supply and case manufacturer. Its business partners include Toshiba, Hitachi, LG Electronics and some of the well known brands in the PC enthusiasts market. In my last business trip to Southern China, HEC sent me an invitation to tour their plant located in Shenzhen, China.

PCB Surface Mounted Components

Surface Mounted Components & Assembly :

HEC purchases raw materials such as PCB, Capacitors, Resistors, Transistors, Diodes and others from reputable suppliers.

Some of the identical size components are auto loaded onto the PCB using this piece of equipment at a high rate of speed.

Other than a couple of sub-assemblies such as "choke" and "transformer" (yes, HEC produces 60% of transformers in house), the assembled PCB is a continuous operation.

  • Materials preparation - dressing and trimming of leads
  • Surface mounted component loading
  • Heatsink Mounting and Alignment
  • Wave solder
  • Wiring harness
  • QC station
  • Case/PCB assembly
  • Burn test
  • Final QC

    Assembled board is inserted into fixture where as much as 100 points of measurement could be taken. Go and no go decision is made here.
