BitFenix Colossus ATX Case Review

Cases & PSU/Cases by stefan @ 2010-09-21

The Colossus is the first case launched from BitFenix, a new company on the market. The case has some interesting features like a very innovative TRON-like lightening, a top compartment with lock and the cable routing/hiding options. The included 2x230mm fans provide enough cooling and there is a fan controller that has spare connections for up to 4 extra fans.

A Closer Look Part 3

Here is a small shot on how the side panel does look, under the protective material:

Under the case, we can find 4 nice looking plastic feet, which do have rubber on the bottom, to keep the case secure on the surface we will put it on, but also to avoid scratches:

In the area where the PSU will sit, we do have an air filter, which is fully removable:

Next to it, we can find a place on the bottom to install an optional fan which can be 120 or 140mm; this are comes also pre-mounted with an air filter:

During transport, it is possible that some of the components inside to be out of place, like the HDD trays; in my case, besides the HDD trays, I have also found a PCI bracket that fell off to stick between the bottom margin of the case and one of the laterals, which made the right side panel removal impossible, without extracting the bracket through the power supply hole.

The inside of the case is really spacious, with lots of places to install disk drives, racks, extra fan controllers or other devices:

In the top and right parts of the area where the motherboard will get to be installed, we do have holes for a good wire management:

On the motherboard tray, we can see a little space with letters which explains where to install the spacers, depending on what motherboard format we will install inside the case:

Here is a photo of the large upper 230mm fan; BitFenix tells us that in the same area we can install 2x120/140mm fans and he holes are predrilled, as we can see from the photo:
