BitFenix Colossus ATX Case Review

Cases & PSU/Cases by stefan @ 2010-09-21

The Colossus is the first case launched from BitFenix, a new company on the market. The case has some interesting features like a very innovative TRON-like lightening, a top compartment with lock and the cable routing/hiding options. The included 2x230mm fans provide enough cooling and there is a fan controller that has spare connections for up to 4 extra fans.

A Closer Look Part 4

Near the fan, we can find a green PCB where the USB 3.0 ports are situated; some extra power can be fed to the ports with the extra cable, which goes to a MOLEX connector, to be plugged directly into the power supply:

In the front we can find another 230mm fan as intake, and meant to properly cool the drives:

To the left of the top fan, we can see again the orifices for water cooling:

The 5.25’’ bay retention mechanisms do have a button in the center which must be pressed and moved to the left or right after sliding the drive inside the bay:

The HDD trays are very flexible and they stay secure inside the case only if they are populated with drives; I would recommend getting the unused ones in a secure place until they will be used too:

The case does also come with a 3.5’’ to 5.25’’ adapter:

The rest of the bundle is located in a white cardboard box:

Here we can find some adhesive plastic pieces that help with the cable management, an adapter which allows installing the USB 3.0 ports to a USB 2.0 header on the motherboard, a small speaker, a plastic bag with two sets of the BitFenix Lockdown, which allow us to secure heavy graphic cards during transport, the front corresponding to the 5.25’’ to 3.5’’ adapter, some screws and spacers for the motherboard, but also some black zip ties:

In the back of the motherboard tray, we have some pre-routed cables, which include connectors for no less than 6 fans, which can be controlled by the fan controller on top, the USB 3.0 power connector, but also the external lights power connector:

The cables that power up the side panels are labeled:
