Cooler Master CM 690 III Computer Case Review

Cooler Master's CM 690 series has received again a face lift, logic as it remains one of the core products of the Cooler Master enclosure range. Today we introduce you to the third installment of the infamous 690 series. At first glance no big cosmetic changes are detectable on the outside. This CM 690 III still carries the heavy weight on its shoulder of its predecessors regarding the looks, thus most changes are made on the inside to make this medium tower lineup 2013 proof. Time to open the box and explore the goodness the Cooler Master engineers came up with this time...

Test Setup and Methodology

The test setup comprises of the following hardware:

The hardware comprises of the following parts:

ASUS Sabertooth X79 mainboard
Intel i7-3960X OC'ed at 4.5Ghz 1.37Vcore
Corsair Hydro100i cooling
32GBb CORSAIR VENGEANCE PRO 2666C11 RAMs
1 x AMD 7970HD graphics card
1 x Western Digital 1TB Caviar Green Hard Drives
4 x SAMSUNG 840 PRO 256GB SSD
Corsair HX1000 Power Supply.

For the IDLE tests we allow the setup warm up during a 30 min period. The temperatures of the CPU cores are monitored by the Realtemp software. The temperatures of the motherboard components are read out by the ASUS Thermal Radar software. For the stress test we go flat out and test our the six cores of the overclocked i7-3960X CPU (4500MHz) with the Prime95 64bit software with a custom 12-12K setting. For the GPU test we ran a 3 time loop of the Futuremark Vantage 3D bench software to heat up the graphics core.
