the one that is "slower" delivers less packets, but you get morre points for them!

TerAngreal 26th November 2002 18:36

i'd say they both have the same effect when looking at the recieved points ...

it only seems that way because a "slow" WU takes a lot longer to complete ...

DUR0N 26th November 2002 18:39

I've got 3 Pxxx packets in progress, nearing the end

TerAngreal 26th November 2002 18:43

scoring time :)

i've got a p*** packet coming up ... in about 2 days -- still stuck on this P!!! 550 :(

TeuS 26th November 2002 20:36

lol

move the display of folding@home quickly around the screen
funny result :^D

Hooked up another K7 - 700 24/7 ... just to make some REAL progress. I'll just have to wait how this one turns out as it is "stealthed" and i cannot follow it's progress at the time.

And stanford = down atm :( ....

... must be the massive MAD reaction driving them nuts.

:ws: MAD-team ... :ws:
We started only 5 days ago and we already have approx. 500 points !!

I edited the very small stealth howto

You do not have to fill in the parameter -local.

No problem if it's already installed like this ... the parameter is only used if you want to use the same MachineID on different PC's.

TeuS 27th November 2002 11:59

strange....my P4 doesn't show how many WU's he has already completed
I can't check the site now wether he really sends the packages back

i'll add dad's pc's this afternoon :grr:

jmke 27th November 2002 12:35

still checking my multimediarig, I found out my Chieftec 340Watt PSU can't handle all that Hardware

Mobo + P4 @ 2.8
256 DDR
2x 7200RPm HD's
2x CDRW/DVD
1x SCSI
1x Sound
1x AGP vidcard
2x 80mm fans

some USB devices

all adds up to ~350Watt usage using the guidelines from HWFaq.

damnit!

keep getting random hard-reboots
somebody got a 400+watt PSU for sale? ;)

jmke 27th November 2002 12:40

ah yes, by the way, anybody knows how I can the folding thingie on PC's who dont have inet access ?

Don't think that would be possible ... i'm checking it ... tbc
(edit : wouldn't it be easier to figure out how to get past the firewall ?)

btw : i got more HW and an OC'ed AMD in my home-pc ... "pulled" by a 300W PSU

For everyone : http://folding.stanford.edu/faq.html

EDIT N°3

answered by DDTUNG , it IS possible !

jmke 27th November 2002 14:01

yes my 'old' OC AMD did just fine :)
now added scsi , dvdplayer and a power hungry P4 @ 2.8Ghz :-)

PSU is NOT coping (since the PC works fine if I remove the scsi + 2 cddrives :) )

using 2 ATX power supplies could be a possibility.. hmmm
yes :)

The Senile Doctor 27th November 2002 14:45

Use the command line (no text) folding program.folding program.
Explanation = here ... very simple

Then read the DDTUNG explanation

... and start folding !

:gay: i miss you in the ranking :D

TerAngreal 27th November 2002 16:55

XP1800+ and P233MMX coming up together with a mobile PIV ... isn't much but it's worth installing it :)

is this okay ? :)

biCker 27th November 2002 22:04

Whatever you do, don't make system restore (on win XP) set your system back a day. I had to because of a major ****-up, and now i'm back working on unit 8, while 9 was finished and working on number 10 today :grum:

jmke 27th November 2002 23:10

uhm your progress is recorded on the HardDisk

by going back to a previous system state I think you overwrote the data over there :p

As you may have visited xtreme you may have noticed i forgot the "-service" - string

jmke 30th November 2002 01:17

the "-service" tag doesn't seem to work on the windows "visual" client :/

when used it doesn't do anything
when removed it works as it should
even when not logged on

Bosw8er 30th November 2002 12:05

I uninstalled the graphical client and i only use the console. It's easier when you are used to it ... and it guarantees 24/7 stable supah fast folding.

Jay-jay is quickly catching up! He's been giving his PC's an EPO treatment !

btw : you don't loose any information/packets when you switch from graphical to console. Just copy the console.exe into the folding@home folder, quit the graphical client, rin the console.exe and you're all set.
