| PIMORONI Intros NVMe Base Duo for Raspberry Pi 5 Electronics hobbyist solutions brand PIMORONI introduced the NVMe Base Duo for Raspberry Pi 5 (model: PIM704). This accessory for the Raspberry Pi 5 lets you have up to two M.2 NVMe SSDs for compact solid-state storage. The Pi 5 only has a PCI-Express 2.0 x1 interface for add-on modules such as these. The PIM704 uses a ribbon cable to connect to this, and a PCIe Gen 2 switch to give each of the two M.2 slots a Gen 2 x1 connection (5 Gbps per direction). PIMORONI says that you can expect real-world transfer speeds of up to 450 MB/s reads for a single drive, or up to 220 MB/s per drive for simultaneous transfers from two drives. The makers have tested the base to work with several popular SSD models. They are selling the PIM704 both as barebones accessory (you use your own drives); or in 500 GB (2x 250 GB) and 1000 GB (2x 500 GB) models, with pre-installed drives. The barebones NVMe Base Duo is priced at £30; the 500 GB model at £91.80, and the 1000 GB model at £115.50. https://www.techpowerup.com/320220/p...raspberry-pi-5 |
