AFTER A YEAR of bickering and dickering with the European Commission, which included both sides holding their breath until they turned blue, software giant Microsoft has finally issued its anti-trust friendly version of Windows XP.
No, it doesn't have a great big flash on the outside saying "Extra Flakes Inside". We're not talking breakfast cereal here, you know.

Vole says that the "N" editions of XP are set to be made available to manufacturers on June 15, with retail availability expected on July 1.

The first people to get a copy have been the European Commissioners who opened theirs last week and liked what they saw.

Windows XP Home Edition N and XP Professional N have been built to comply with the March 24 EC antitrust ruling which demanded it ship without Windows Media Player.

Vole still has to come up with some more flexible licensing terms for its system code, to allow rivals to work with code much better. Vole says it is still working on that.
