Default Mercedes-Benz partners with Nvidia for next-gen self-driving vehicles

Software-defined computing architecture based on Nvidia Drive platform

Mercedes-Benz has partnered up with Nvidia to create a new in-vehicle computing system and AI computing infrastructure, all based on a new software-defined architecture that will be rolling out to the fleet of next-generation Mercedes-Benz vehicles as of 2024.

According to details provided by two companies, the new software-defined architecture that will be built on the Nvidia Drive platform will bring the most sophisticated and advanced computing architecture ever deployed in a car.

The primary feature will be automated driving functionalities, with regular routes from address to address as well as plenty of safety and convenience applications. What makes it more interesting is the fact that Mercedes-Benz and Nvidia plan to offer customers an ability to purchase and add capabilities, software applications, and subscription services through over-the-air software updates during the life of the car.

The platform itself, based on the next generation Nvidia Drive platform, will feature Nvidia Orin SoC, based on Nvidia Ampere architecture. Two companies will develop AI and automated vehicle applications that include SAE level 2 and 3, as well as automated parking functions (up to level 4).
