Default iOS 12.1.1, Out Today, Makes Switching FaceTime Camera a Single Tap Again

iOS 12.1.1 is coming today with many features in tow, but perhaps the best is the return of single-button camera flipping in FaceTime. It may not seem like a big deal, but this has been annoying since iOS 12 “broke” it.

If you’ve ever been on a FaceTime call with someone and wanted to show them something in the room, you know how convenient it is to quickly switch between the front and rear cameras with the tap of a button. But that was changed in iOS 12, with the feature moved behind into the menu a couple of taps away. Sure, it seems trivial, but this has been annoying FaceTime users since the change happened. Fortunately, today things will be going back to “normal.”

Otherwise, iOS 12.1.1 brings several other changes and improvement, like eSIM activation for more carriers, notification previews using haptic touch on the iPhone XR, Live Photo capture during FaceTime calls, and more.

This update also brings some bug fixes, including one where Face ID may temporarily become unavailable. Here’s a full look at everything in iOS 12.1.1:

iOS 12.1.1 adds features and fixes bugs for your iPhone and iPad. Features and improvements include:

– Notification preview using haptic touch on iPhone XR
– Dual SIM with eSIM for additional carriers on iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max
– One tap to flip between the rear and front-facing camera during a FaceTime call
– Live Photo capture during one-to-one FaceTime calls
– The option to hide the sidebar in News on iPad in landscape orientation
– Real-time text (RTT) when using Wi-Fi calling on iPad and iPod touch
– Stability improvements for dictation and VoiceOver
