| Intel moves to PCIe Gen5 Nvidia is no longer the only one Intel has signed up for the new PCIe Gen5 or 16-pin or 12VHPWR power connector at least for its new Data Center GPU Max 1000 GPUs based on its Ponte Vecchio processor. NVIDIA was the first to adopt this power connector for its RTX 40 GPUs and was using it to replace up to four 8-pin cables worth of 600W of power. It didn't work out very well and there have been a few cases of melting connectors and adapters. That does not seem to have stopped Intel. The company will be offering various implementations of this graphics architecture with a 12VHPWR connector, meaning NVIDIA will no longer be the only company using it. According to Intel, the 12VHPWR connector will remain exclusive to NVIDIA until January 2023, which is when Intel is planning to launch its Max 1100 PCIe series. No desktop gaming products besides GeForce are expected to feature this connector. https://fudzilla.com/news/graphics/5...s-to-pcie-gen5 |
