Default Heatwave dissolves British clouds

Google and Oracle offline

The UK heatwave had a weird effect on Google and Oracle clouds with both had to take off their cloud services and servers because their cooling systems could not handle the temperature and were at risk of burning out.

Oracle said that it was “identifying service infrastructure that can be safely powered down to prevent additional hardware failures” while Google Cloud products experienced “elevated error rates, latencies or service unavailability” when trying to reach one of its London servers.

The disruptions were brief but if temperatures get any worse (better for some) more might follow.

For those who think climate change is a good thing, in 2070 winters could be up to 3.9 degrees Celsius warmer and summers could be up to 4.9 degrees Celsius hotter - with both users and businesses feeling the effects with cloud providers having to spend a fortune on cooling.
