![]() | HD-DVD and Blu-Ray Disappointing So Far 'Neither format is selling well or at the level I had expected. I had expected early adopters to step up and other retailers have had the same experience,' said Bjorn Dybdahl, president of San Antonio, Texas-based specialty store Bjorn's. 'High expectations were set. At every meeting with Sony, every demonstration was spectacular,' Dybdahl said. 'Then along comes the first Blu-ray player from Samsung and that's when my expectations were hurt. When we put the disc in, all the sales people looked around and said it doesn't look much better than a standard DVD,' he said

| ![]() Well, Duh! Some of us are old enough to actually remember VHS v Beta, Minidisc being the next big thing (whoops, hello MP3..) etc etc and will NOT be getting suckered again. Sort out the cost, compatability and the final winner, THEN we might start buying them ![]() |

and not to forget that DVD introduced menus, quick skip, easy search, different subtitles, extra's etc etc , which was an increased value over VHS. The new formats don't really add much in that department (if at all)

| ![]() like we never expected this. BR is just too expensive atm, be serious, $1000 for a player, $1500 for a decent HD-tv and we shouldn't even be talking about possible bugs in the first series of new devices. I think most people are very happy with DVD, the quality is good and I don't think that most people even care about HD-quality when they have an evening of moviewatching ... (okay, it's much better, but hey, 10 years ago you've been watching at much worse quality) |

| ![]() Heh, good article! Glad to hear a better explanation about the MPEG2 claims I have been hearing about. Bjorn knows his stuff, his store is always a great walk through. Beyond compare to a BB or any other store that sells mid to high range TVs and home theater equipment. So if his employees said that, then that is actually saying something, let alone that Bjorn made that sort of remark himself. |
