ChatGPT, the app that lets you chat with an intelligent bot, wants to become the default assistant on Android phones.

Android Authority's Mishaal Rahman found a hidden feature in the latest version of the app that lets you talk to ChatGPT from any screen.

He says he tried to activate the feature, but it didn't work properly and the app crashed. He thinks the feature is not ready yet or is being kept secret by OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT.

Rahman says a file in the app that shows OpenAI plans to make ChatGPT the default assistant on Android. This means you could launch it by pressing the home button or swiping up from the corner.

But there's a catch: ChatGPT won't be able to respond to voice commands like "Hey ChatGPT" or "OK ChatGPT", because that needs special access that only trusted apps have.

Still, OpenAI may be trying to beat Google, who is about to launch Assistant with Bard, a new chatbot that can write stories and jokes. OpenAI may want to make it easy for Android users to use ChatGPT, so they don't switch to Bard just because it's more convenient.
