ASRock can't flog RX 500s GPUs in EU

ASRock has been prevented from sellinf a new set of cards which it had hoped to cash in on the crypto-currency wave.

Tom's Hardware said that the outfit stitched together a lineup of graphics cards based on AMD's Radeon RX 500 series, with its fastest card being the RX 580 Phantom Gaming X. However, AMD has refused to give ASRock a licence to sell its GPUs in the old country.

ASRock has confirmed that its VGA cards will only be sold in South America and APEC (excluding China, Hong Kong and Taiwan) at first, although it did not say if it would be widened in the future. This is due to "a mutual channel agreement".

Later ASRock said it wants to roll out its VGA business in various regions based on its resources planning. Regions with priorities are APEC and Latin America. Then it wants to launch the business in other areas .

One thought is that the reason might be due to a swelling inventory of AMD Radeon graphics cards from other AIB (add in board) partners, due to waning interesting in GPU-accelerated cryptocurrency mining.
