Looks like that trade war is working

Fruity cargo cult Apple is looking to China to make its OLED screens.

The company typically sources from Korean producers such as Samsung. However, starting in 2020, Apple wants Chinese company BOE is expected to supply Apple with some of the OLEDs for the 2020 iPhone.

The report from RPRNA says that for now, Samsung is expected to continue being Apple’s main supplier, but BOE could potentially be getting more orders and it looks like Jobs’ Mob is diversifying its supply chain.

While the move appears to show no fear of Donald Trump’s Trade tariffs, it is more likely that the move is because Apple does not want to cuddle up too much to Samsung. The pair have been at odds since the days when Samsung started putting out rounded rectangle smartphones. Apple claimed to have invented the rounded rectangle.

As it stands, BOE already supplies LCDs to Apple for use in their iPads and MacBooks, so both companies already have a working relationship with each other.

The move is bad news for US President Donald Trump who has been fighting an ever losing trade war against China. He has been desperate to get Apple to set up its businesses in the US as a flagship for his policies. Unfortunately, despite the trade tariffs Trump set in place, Apple has remained rather off-shore.
