Seagate or samsung. Both have 5 year warranty and are pretty silent.

I got 3 very old hdd's. 2 of WD and 1 of maxtor. Maxtor is broken, both the WD's are still working perfect. The wd's are even a few years older than the maxtor. But I also got a maxtor of 40GB that workes perfect, even after it falled out my hands etc.

Don't need silent disk, I need speedy disks :)

What if accoustic management is off (seagate)?
Is it still noticibly slower than the other disks?

5 year on all Seagate disks?

FreeStyler 6th October 2004 23:31

it's still slower.

noticably is a different story.

Bot if noise is no concern, maxtor will probably be the best choice.
Price is good, they are speedy and they are big.

If price and size is no concern, you shouldn't be asking here, you should get a pair of 74GB raptors.

Unless you've got a controller that supports NCQ :)

Too bad Maxtor only gives 1year warranty...

No it's not.

Check storagereview , they've got extensive tests between all models. The Baracuda V series is slower, but the 7200.7 series is on par with the fastest WD desktop drives. Sometimes they're a little bit slower, sometimes a bit faster.
