still hoping for a change in one of the upcoming rounds to something more mainstream ; like say; A64 CPU (not phenom).

True, those who invest in up-to-date materials can join, pitty for all those who can't join compo after compo after compo... the number of left out peepz outnumbers the amount given here few posts earlier.

leeghoofd 16th November 2009 18:54

you can also reverse the ball big G... Who's able to bench older hardware ? those that bench regularly will have updated hardware for sure, plus the competition seems to cover all sorts of classes... if you want to win it's logic you need enthousiast hardware

those who can afford 2x295GTX and Core i7 EX can easily afford a second hand older setup to bench for fun.

Round 3 will be high class too... requiring €200 CPU
Round 1 was with CPUs $320+
Round 2 is with CPUs $280+
Last round is with CPUs $999+

leeghoofd 16th November 2009 19:30

you could have benched a Q6600 too in round one, eg Skull had a 170 euro CPU... if you wanted the max yes, get that Q9650 and that P45 mobo...

It's like I said IF you want to win , you will need to have the high end version...

In Round 2 you can bench with a 920 too, no extreme or 950 or so required... the competition is set up, to get the overclockers form one country in some sort of alliance... not an individual ranking or show..

If I don't have the hardware I don't bench it not will I buy anything special for it...

Btw Last round is 2001... will be Core2 for sure... no 99999999 cpu

Think you guys are really missing the point here...

geoffrey 16th November 2009 19:43

You can create something which doesn't require +-5 months old hardware or younger. No fun for those without hw-lab. Manuf. want good economics and sell their new stuff, I understand that, would be quite a disaster if A64 rig would take the gold, how do you bring something like that to the news :)

leeghoofd 16th November 2009 19:50

You only have one week to get ya gear together. Even if you buy a new cpu it could be you have only got one day or so to bench it...

if you are reversing to older hardware and have to look on Ebay and co you will never ever make it... you can only bench with what you have G, not with what you could get... I understand ya frustration abit, but I will also be able to make it maybe one or two rounds...

geoffrey 16th November 2009 19:55

I'm not saying that one should look for elder stuff, I'm saying that there are ways of combining new and elder hw in the same compo. Let them bench with what they have, keep costs low, competition high and it will sure be as fun as this.

no I think you don't even got my first point AT ALL.

Spending $900 for a competition to bench in some of the rounds != spending $100 on CPU/RAM/MOBO of an older generation; same fun, less expensive, broader audience, more competition, lower instep level, more spectators, more extreme cooling, less fear to break stuff, etc.

if earth was "the point", you would be seen crashing into the sun. :p
ROUND 1 $170 CPU $100 MOBO $50 RAM
ROUND 2 $280 CPU $150 MOBO $100 RAM
ROUND 3 $200 CPU $100 MOBO $100 RAM
ROUND 4 3DMark Vantage. This won't be a cheap VGA card and requires a quad core CPU , Core i7 even, to score high = $200 CPU $100 MOBO $100 RAM + VGA
ROUND 5 Wprime 32m; *hope*
ROUND 6 SuperPi 32M; *hope*
ROUND 7 $$$$$$$ NO LIMITS $$$$$$$$$$ 295 GTX, E8600, LN2.

*hoping* that R5/6 will be with TOTAL SYSTEM COST <$150.

hence why I suggested 2 weeks per round but was voted down :(
2 weekends per round would offer a lot more people the chance to participate.

leeghoofd 16th November 2009 20:58

They just want you to bench with the hardware that you have... I can only participate with what I have lying around here.. if I don't have it, so be it, then it's up to someone else to do the job... Tests have been chosen based on the number of submissions, then some rules applied to give everyone a fair run (I would have liked an 8 multi lock in round one too)... I really don't see ya point John

Sadly for Belgium we have only a dozen active overclockers... but most of us at OC Team BE all have I7 at home, so we give it our best shot in this round !!

Whan going with two weeks, it will allow users to go for LN2 and more extreme stuff, note that most scores are H2O and SS based...

They want to keep it simple and limit each round by a certain rule (like this month with 20X and last month with no Extreme CPU's)

Reason I created this thread is to get everyone in it... don't analyse stuff like this, as it will get you nowhere... if you have issues with the way things are run , talk to other Hwbot crew...

can you define who "they" are before you proceed with your post?

re-read my posts, you will get it eventually.

nope, it will allow for more people to participate because not everybody is a student with plenty of spare time.

don't analyse stuff like this,
my "job" is to analyse "this stuff" and help guide HWbot to become more and more popular. So yes. ANALYZING this is exactly what I need to do, find the faults, suggest improvements;
nobody is winning here with nothing happening on the compo pages because the limits are set to strict.

Again... you fail to see that "they" for HWBot is partly /me, Massman and RB.

Don't jump to conclusions two days before the end of stage 2 ;)

jmke 16th November 2009 22:09

I'm not dissing the HWBOT world cup; I LOVE =)

I'm just crossing my fingers one of those rounds involve less expensive gear. that's all ; you're doing a terrific job @ the HWBot site :ws:
RB needed somebody like you to help guide the site, especially since his main interest is not OC ;)

Massman 16th November 2009 22:32

It's not about love, it's about making conclusions before you have all the data. All we know at this point is that there are less submissions than when stage1 had at this point; why is something to analyze when we have all data.

jmke 16th November 2009 22:35

I'm also not analyzing, only writing down what I "think", hence why I don't do this at HWbot forums; LH is drumming along about "analyzing";)

leeghoofd 17th November 2009 06:15

I know you are part of Hwbot crew, hence why I said talk to the other crew members... for the rest I will stop posting here as it seems to silly to continue these kindda conversations...

jmke 17th November 2009 08:21

Albrecht, I know what you are saying, I understand what you are trying to prove here; but my remarks are about opening the compo to get more people to submit scores; there weren't that many unique users last round, even less (so far) this round; this is due to 2 facts:
- expensive hardware (if you don't already OWN it) and not everybody who OWNs it can slap on SS/DryIce/H20 for an OC, risking OS corruption/broken HW; not everybody has more than one PC ;)
- the short 7 day bench cycle; this only allows for 1 weekend; this diminishes potential participants too.

those two points is all I've been discussing here; nothing more, nothing less. Don't look any further :)

My retail 975 doesnt like Bclock like ES one on classi ... i cant reach 230 under Cascade with it

Gamer 17th November 2009 09:56

Bummer :(

No other cpu in tha house ?

Massman 17th November 2009 10:01

So it's all upto me?

I just recieved a board from DFI ... tempting!

Gamer 17th November 2009 10:07

MSN PJ !!!

If you give me my board back I'll give you a run for your money :p

No :) ... only ES or Gulftown :D

PFF shitty bclock on that 5.3Ghz vantage chip ^^

Gamer 17th November 2009 10:35

You can't use the ES ?
Have to read the rules I guess :p

jmke 17th November 2009 11:00

he read the rules, that's why he used a retail 975.. ;)

Pt1t 17th November 2009 13:12

and now OS s*x ... got 19.33s @ 4550.

leeghoofd 17th November 2009 13:26

go go Massman, profile 8 is good to go... 220Bclock and then tweak ram from there, was stuck at 237Bclock (prob due to PCI-E at 112), we need at least another sub 18 run ( 4.7Ghz should do that) OS is pre tweaked too ( put off large system cache and no maxmem )

Don't give up Thomas, OS install takes 15 minutes :p

Massman 17th November 2009 13:29

Had massive boot issues ... so the bench process is lagging

leeghoofd 17th November 2009 13:38

2 or 3 dimms ?

Massman 17th November 2009 13:49

1, 2 and 3. Seems like the dimm furthest away from the CPU is not functional.

leeghoofd 17th November 2009 13:56

Yep sadly there's an issue with the board :(

Didn't post with any of my dimms, always shuts down after 69 post code...

So it's not CPU/socket related, but purely the board. That's shite for such an expensive board... Gamer got no luck at all with these eVGA's.

Hopefully you can breach 18secs to get our average a bit lower... hopefully Thomas or even Luc can still add a good score too (low 18's or sub :p )... We could make top 3... and put Belgium on the map lol

Gamer 17th November 2009 15:16

I'll look in to it later.
Let's hope I can RMA the board somewhere :(

jmke 17th November 2009 15:24

Belgium should win by default because RB & MM are hosting it;)

leeghoofd 17th November 2009 17:44

Where are them scores ? Common lads, install that superOS and give us some sub 18 sec ones

Massman 17th November 2009 19:07

More troubles than pleasure :(

Gamer 17th November 2009 19:08

Explain ?
My board again ?

Massman 17th November 2009 19:14

Still the same board. Having issues below 222BCLK on air doesn't make sense.

leeghoofd 17th November 2009 19:17

Profile 8 loaded ? just check the ram timings plz ( think they are too tight for the Corsairs...) I used the same setting for Luc's 3540 and my 950... don't tell me I killed the board under 5 minutes phase...

Better upload that normal score of yours Luc, better than nothing I would say

Massman 17th November 2009 19:33

Profile 8 didn't work for me. I made a different one, but it only works half.

Switched boards now; no time and not in the mood for another three hours of classified troubleshooting.

Gamer, if you want to pick up the gear for some late night testing, no problem.

Pt1t 17th November 2009 20:12

I tried under cascade ... no way to be stable @ -100 with high Bclock.

But i still have a result under watercooling :

jmke 17th November 2009 20:27

it will decrease our average, go for it :)
