Default Sony's Blu-ray offerings stay old school, as next-gen is made for old-gen?

If there's one thing that geeks have pointed to when championing Blu-ray over HD DVD, it's capacity. The 50GB BD-ROM sounds meaty compared to HD DVD's 30GB size, and in theory, the Blu-ray disc will only get larger (perhaps up to 200GB at 25GB per layer, with eight layers). For the distribution of entertainment titles, however, the 50GB disc will be the Blu-ray standard for years to come.

Last week that impressive size started to look less impressive. A Sony Pictures vice president, Don Eklund, said that his studio will use MPEG-2, a decade-old video codec, for its releases.
