Default Promise Technology Demonstrates RAID 6 And SATA 3G Solutions

Next Generation RAID Storage Controller Combines Two-Drive Failure Protection with High-Throughput Next Generation SATA RAID for Unprecedented Performance and Data Availability
INTEL DEVELOPER FORUM -BOOTH #201, SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- March 01, 2005 -- Promise Technology, Inc., the originator and global leader in SATA RAID data protection and storage solutions, is showcasing a sneak preview of its next-generation SATA RAID solutions at this week's Intel Developer Forum (IDF) in San Francisco, Calif. In addition to previews of several new controllers and a new external storage system, the company is featuring a demonstration of a SATA RAID controller that combines support for up to eight SATA 3Gb/s drives with support for RAID 6. These new solutions are designed to offer storage users in the budget-constrained small to medium business (SMB) market dramatic improvements in data throughput, capacity, and protection.

The featured demonstration highlights Promise Technology's emerging solutions for RAID 6. While RAID 6 delivers the capacity and performance benefits of RAID 5, RAID 6 also protects a storage array from a simultaneous failure of two hard drives in the array, a catastrophic event using RAID 5. This level of protection is made possible by combining Promise's RAID engine with the powerful IntelŽ I/O processor based on Intel XScaleŽ technology.

The demonstration will also highlight Promise Technology's support for the next generation of Serial ATA drives that deliver data throughput at 3.0 Gigabits per second. The featured demonstration will take advantage of drives from Hitachi Global Storage Technologies that support this latest advance.

"Hitachi's new Deskstar drives provide the storage capacity and 3 Gb/s transfer rates that IT managers need to effectively deploy complex, bandwidth-intensive applications," said Becky Smith, Vice President of Marketing, Hitachi Global Storage Technologies. "Hitachi has worked closely with Promise to deliver 3 Gb/s SATA drives that set the new performance standard."

"As the worldwide leader in SATA RAID storage solutions, Promise is committed to delivering next generation products that deliver exceptional performance and data protection without pricing those benefits beyond the budgets of the SMB market," said Suresh Panikar, vice president of worldwide channel sales and marketing, Promise Technology. "We will continue to push the technological boundaries to bring these important technologies to storage users everywhere."

Promise is also presenting its broad offering of SATA storage solutions - including ASIC controllers, SATA RAID controllers, and external storage systems - at IDF Booth #201.

The Hitachi and Promise SATA product demonstrations will also be featured at CeBIT 2005. CeBIT, the world's largest information technology conference, takes place in Hannover, Germany, March 10-16.
