Default The Performance Impact of Battlefield V's Ray Tracing With a 2080 TI

Ray tracing can certainly make Battlefield V look stunning, but that extra rendering quality comes at a significant performance cost. Here at HardOCP, we've already looked at the performance impact RTX and the DirectX 12 API have on the RTX 2070, RTX 2080, and on the CPU. But today, we examined ray tracing performance on Nvidia's highest performing consumer GPU, the RTX 2080 TI. Check out the review here. Today, similar to the past two articles, we will be using an ASUS ROG STRIX RTX video card. This is the ASUS ROG STRIX RTX 2080 Ti OC video card. It has a GPU Boost clock of 1650MHz. However, our in-game real-world testing reveals GPU Boost clocks the card up to an average of 1814MHz while gaming. Therefore, this is another example of a highly factory overclocked video card. If yours performs slower, ray tracing performance will be slower. This is the high-end of 2080 Ti performance. This video card is out of stock at Newegg currently, but would be $1,399.99... We will be using the latest version of Battlefield V including the DXR Performance Patch and the latest December 11th patch. We are testing the Multiplayer aspect of the game in Rotterdam, a 64-player map. Rotterdam is very popular, and is used by NVIDIA for demonstration of NVIDIA Ray Tracing in demos prior to the game launch.
