Icon17 NVIDIA Officially launches Geforce G80 Mid Range Series - Benchmarks Inside

NVIDIA today announced its latest DirectX 10 product offerings to serve the $129-$229 price points. The new GeForce 8600 GTS, 8600 GT and 8500 GT introduces technology previously exclusive to the high-end GeForce 8800-series to more affordable levels. NVIDIA’s new mainstream product lineup features Shader Model 4.0 support, GigaThread technology and NVIDIA’s Quantum Effects physics processing technology. The addition of NVIDIA’s Lumenex engine to the mainstream sector provides value-conscious buyers with 128-bit floating point HDR rendering and anti-aliasing levels of 16x.

€139 7900GS gives this highly overclocked 8600GTS quite a beating... what a disappointment, knowing that the cheapest 8600GTS is priced at €200!

At this time it's very questionable why one would get those mainstream cards, though I'm stull curious what happens in Vista with pure DX10 calculations.

no one knows technically we don't need DX10 at all for GFX beauty, it can all be done with DX9; it's one big marketing scheme to get us to upgrade to Vista.

Anyway, HardOCP have the 8600GTS outperforming the X1950 Pro... that is weird, and doesn't match up with the other benchmark results... :/

And by the time DX10 is widely available we will have other mainstream cards to please ourselves with. Though, might be cool to get a batch of those for overclocking competitions

whole bunch added, Anandtech's is pretty complete. Oblivion really loves this card

I would take a guess and say the 8600GTS will be too slow to run DX10 games in full glory anyway.

8800GTS 320MB will be the best buy until we see the ATI cards
