Default NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS Performance Preview

The performance gap between the GeForce 8600 GTS and the GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB, is huge. Since the 8600 GTS is the bridge between the mid-range 8600 series and the higher end 8800 series, we expected the margin to be smaller. As it is, the scores we got from our benchmarks show our overclocked GeForce 8600 GTS having trouble fending off older cards like the Radeon X1950 PRO. What then for the standard version? We can't help but wonder if the 128-bit memory bandwidth is holding back the GeForce 8600 GTS, especially at the higher resolutions that we tested.

do note that these findings are different from the few game benches VR-Zone did...http://www.vr-zone.com/?i=4883

guess we'll have to wait for the reviews when the card officially launches next week

I don't see them far off, one used a 7900 the others used a 1950 Pro but they ask the question that every 8600 buyer should ask themselves: Is the 8800GTS 320MB the better deal?

if 8600GTS is €200+, it's no good, the X1950 Pro is at <€200 and decreasing; If the 8600GTS' price can be less than €150 it'll become very interesting, but I doubt we'll see such a launchprice
