Default Mortal Kombat makes return to 2D, brings back fatalities

Hot off the heels of the strange and violent Mortal Kombat short film—which, according to star Jeri Ryan was actually a pitch to Warner Bros. for a potential reimagining of the film franchise—comes news that the series is indeed getting a reboot, in the form of an all-new 2D fighter.

The new game, called simply Mortal Kombat, looks to be a very welcome return to the series' roots. Not only will it feature traditional 2D fighting action, but it will also see the return of fatalities. Additionally, the game will introduce a tag-team feature and include what the developers call "the deepest story mode of any fighting game" and "the most extensive online experience ever seen in a fighting game."
