Matrox DualHead2Go

Matrox has always been an intriguing company. Based in Montreal, Quebec, the firm has been best known for making graphics cards. However, unlike Toronto-based ATI or Sunnyvale, California's NVIDIA, Matrox has seemingly elected to retire from the race for the 3D graphics and gaming performance crown. While the seesaw battle between ATI and NVIDIA has generated a lot of press and excitement, Matrox appears content to have fallen out of the media limelight.

As a privately-held company, Matrox has no shareholders to report to and so can pretty much decide what products and strategies they are going to develop. As a result, while they have continued to make new graphics cards (such as the triple-head Parhelia) they have also been staffing a small research and development team to investigate possible new market opportunities.
