![]() | ![]() The fact that DirectX 10 is causing all the video cards in this evaluation to lose performance, when no major image quality enhancements are being made, is quite disappointing. DirectX 10, along with the ability to allow better shader effects, is supposed to be more efficient than DirectX 9. You would think DX10 performance would be slightly faster, but all the video cards tested here were slower in DX10 mode at the exact same settings, some more than others. http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/articl...50aHVzaWFzdA==

![]() | ![]() From the DX10 tech briefs, DX10 is, on paper, faster than DX9 if both use the exact same detail and effects, as the DX10 path between game -> hardware is shorter and there is less CPU overhead. Video games require GPU power, so less CPU overhead will not give your game a large speed boost. Than you tack on more effects with DX10 and you end up with a slower running game; while visually, DX9 is capable of what-ever DX10 can, but with more CPU overhead. With the abundance of CPU power in most recent PCs, I would love to see some people create a game wish looks as stunning as (or better even) than any DX10 game out there. I a feeling DX10 versions of games are made to look nicer to offer a visual advantage over the DX9 part, but I'm not convinced DX9 path can not generate these same image quality settings.
