Default Intel Q6600 Quad core launches on the 7th Jan 2007

The spec is the same as for the Q6700 CPU, but the new one runs at 2.4GHz instead of 2.66.

Intel plans to price it at $851 per piece. But if you are patient and you want to wait for Q1 2007, then you will be able to buy the same CPU for $530. The fastest Quad core, the Q6700 won't drop its price anytime soon.

well, they also announced they wouldnt cut the dual core prices. so it's probably to push their quad core hardware (and perhaps higher end intel mobo chipsets) into the mainstream and consolidating the market (thereby kicking AMD while it's down).

if you dont have a multicore yet, chances are many people will start switching within this and a few months, so the pricecut isnt all that strange.

intel is also probably perfectioning productionprocesses, which make it less costly for them to produce chips.

You're right, but I think they mean Q2/2007 (typo), at least that's what I heard...

That would make more sense, because all core 2's will be reduced in price then

you don't understand

Why release a chip now and say it is 30% cheaper in 6 months?
