| GlobalFoundries remains bullish but roadmap slips Ballingall was quick to point out that the 45-/40-nm node will have a longer-than-expected shelf life, thereby leaving GlobalFoudries in a good position to capitalize on the technology. The company may also end up leveraging or using that technology from Chartered. But over time, GlobalFoundries itself will take the lead role in leading-edge process development. In the leading-edge, there is a need for a new competitor. For some time, the so-called ''Big 4'' in the leading-edge foundry market include Chartered, SMIC, TSMC and UMC. The market also includes a plethora of specialty players and integrated device manufacturers (IDMs) that offer foundry services. Among those IDMs include IBM, Samsung, TI, Toshiba and others. http://www.eetimes.com/rss/showArtic...0200094&pgno=2
