Can AMD keep up with demand?
Can AMD crank out enough CPUs to keep all of its customers happy? That's one of many questions facing the chipmaker in the wake of the acquisition of graphics company ATI. As AMD continues digesting ATI, the biggest issue facing it is the transition to a 65nm fabrication process.
Looking back, it's been a hot couple of years for AMD. The company saw significant market share growth over the past two years, especially in the server market, as its flagship Opteron created and dominated the 64-bit budget x86 server market. Its decision to pursue a different architectural strategy than Intel's "megahertz at any cost" model paid off while its rival's Netburst architecture came to a screeching halt.
