Default Atom CPUs to account for more than 50% of budget-friendly desktops by end of 2009

In light of hot sales of nettop devices, Intel has adjusted its target shipment ratio of single-core Atom 230 and dual-core Atom 330 CPUs as a percentages of total processor shipments with nettops and entry-level desktops increasing from 4% and 6%, respectively, in the first quarter, to 10% and 52% by the fourth quarter of 2009, according to industry sources in Taiwan.

Intel's 65nm dual-core Celeron E1000-series and 45nm single-core Celeron 200-series processors will drop to only 20% and 18% by the fourth quarter.

Intel is scheduled to release a next-generation dual-core Atom processor codenamed Pineview-DC in the fourth quarter of 2009 and a single-core Pineview-SC in the first quarter of 2010, by which time Atom 230 and 330 processors will be phased out of the market.

It doesn't make sense to me to use Atom on a desktop when there are plenty of AMD low cost low power alternatives.
