Default Asus' Radeon HD 4890 enables 1000Mhz Overclock on GPU

With little alteration of the operating voltage ASUS Radeon HD 4890 will be capable of reaching 1000MHz GPU frequency, which is anything but poor. That Radeon HD 4890 will be a good overclocker overall is no secret, but ASUS has really outdone itself to make its version stand out. The memory department seems to be unchanged, but it is very much possible that the more powerful power circuitry will have a positive effect here as well.

Our source also revealed that we will see factory overclocked Radeon HD 4890 cards with GPU clock frequencies beyond 900MHz, but whether it was talking about the renowned "Extreme" edition of HD 4890 was not made clear.

HD 4890 XT to come?

they dropped XT naming scheme after HD 2900 afaik

became Radeon HD ABCx (where A=generation, B=market segment, C=model specification)

4870
4850
4750
3870
3850
etc

hence why we are not at top end of this generation yet, the new one is
48(still same market segment)90 but higher rated model.

the 5xxx series will be next generation; this naming scheme makes sense, complete blows away NVIDIA's product naming mess; beats both Intel and AMD's CPU naming too; VGA naming of ATI cards is pretty much perfect, let's just hope they keep it this way

the only X we can expect is HD4890X2, but only if it makes enough of a difference compared to HD4870X2 and comes close/beats GTX295

The card will be super for benchers, though. Single card rankings in 3DMark01 and AM3 will probably be dominated by this card.
