Is Artificial Intelligence Possible?
The concept of "intelligent" machines has pervaded culture since Greek mythology and this ancient curiosity has provided the impetus for retaining a rich branch of research for the last 50 years. New modeling ideas such as artificial neural networks, fuzzy logic and quantum inspired parallel distributed networks have raised basic questions about intelligence and illustrated the sheer complexity of the human mind and replicating it. This article cuts through the science fiction connotations seen in the media to present a qualitative explanation to the reality of artificial intelligence.
