Default New graphics card for a 24" LCD?

I have a XFX GEForce FX 5600 8X AGP/DXP 128MB DDR W/TV & DVI, SKU 10345270. I plan on buying a Dell 24" LCD monitor, will it work with my graphics card?

I'm also concerned about whether or not my card will work with Vista.

Thanks,

Kerry

1) will it work with a 24" LCD monitor
- yes, but not if you plan to play games, to get good framerates at the native resolution of that 24" LCD you're looking at an SLI or Crossfire setup

2) work for Vista
I don't see why not, but Vista is months away and more details and specs of requirements will leak out before that

Thanks jmke, that's good news.

Nice to hear from you.

BTW: Nothing but praises for my new ASUS P4P800 SE MOBO and my XFX 3-port sync-raid card with three 10,000 RPM Raptors.

It's a three-port card so I have it set for two drives as RAID-0 and the third as RAID-1, I'm not sure what it's called, but the 3rd drive is supposed to be a mirror of the other two.

Hi jmke,

Update on my card and 24" LCD compatability

"AFAICS, the maximum resolution supported by the GEForce FX 5600 128MB family of AGP cards is 1920x1080. The Dell 24" LCD models I find online all have a native resolution of 1920 x 1200. If these are the correct figures, then the card would support the monitor, but will not display using the full size of the screen.

Ideally, what you'd want is a card that supports the native resolution of the LCD monitor, so that you can use all the monitor's real estate."

"GeForce FX 5600 "

now concerning the maximum resolution in 2D, this depends on the RAMDAC used on the video card; where did you find that 1920x1080 number?

the FX5600 has a 400Mhz RAMDAC according to:http://www.tomshw.it/graphic.php?guide=200303061
and a 350Mhz RAMDAC is capable of 2048 x 1536 at 75Hz... so I think you're safe.

unless.. this little blurb on NVIDIA FX's specs pages is true for 5600 also (list is for 5200)

http://www.nvidia.com/page/pg_20040109440047.html

"DVI support for compatibility with nextgeneration flat panel displays with resolutions up to and including 1600×1200"
